Compensation and Benefits for Rostered Persons

Salary calculation worksheets are provided for your use in preparing compensation packages for rostered ministers in your congregation or ministry context. You will note there are separate worksheets for pastors and deacons, as well as guidelines to assist you. The Rostered Ministers’ Compensation and Benefits Manual 2022 provides more detailed information for congregational leaders developing compensation packages or updating existing ones. Adopted June 3, 2023, the Synod Assembly set the 2024 minimum salary guidelines: the beginning minimum base salary and housing allowance of $60,070 for pastors who serve full time at the time of their ordination and the beginning minimum base salary when housing is provided of $41,792 for pastors who serve full time at the time of their ordination; the beginning minimum salary of $57,100 for deacons who serve full time at the time of their ordination. We encourage all congregations to use these figures as minimum salaries on the Ministers of Word and Sacrament and Ministers of Word and Service salary development worksheets and to have a conversation with their rostered ministers using the Ministers of Word and Sacrament and Ministers of Word and Service salary development worksheet guidelines.
