Daniel T. Umholtz began his musical training in 1996 studying the piano at the age of 5 at the Braun School of Music in Pottsville, PA, and continued through 2005.  Dan began organ lessons in 2001 at the age of 10 with his father, Jack, laying the groundwork in manual and pedal technique, and developing his registration abilities on both small and large instruments.  He continued his organ studies in 2008 and 2009 with Aram Basmadjian in Macungie, PA.

Mr. Umholtz works as a tonal finisher for Walker Technical Company of Zionsville, PA., traveling extensively throughout the United States voicing organs in churches, residences, and concert halls. Dan also serves as full-time organist at St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church and part-time organist at Trinity Lutheran Church, both located in Valley View, PA.  In 2009, he was appointed house organist of the Hershey Theatre, located in historic downtown Hershey, PA.  There he has provided demonstrations and occasional concerts on the 4 manual/69 rank Aeolian-Skinner pipe organ.  In 2016, Dan began serving as an Assistant Organist to Peter Richard Conte – Grand Court Organist, Macy’s Center City (formerly the John Wanamaker department store), Philadelphia. Additionally, Dan is an active recitalist as well as a sought after collaborative artist in the central Pennsylvania region.

Dan holds an Associates Degree in Music Industry from Harrisburg Area Community College, Harrisburg, PA, and a Bachelors Degree in Music with concentration on the organ from Messiah College, Mechanicsburg, PA, graduating in 2011 and 2015, respectively. At Messiah he has studied organ with Dr. Shawn Gingrich of Hershey, PA, as well as the late Michael Stairs of Philadelphia, PA – retired organist for the Philadelphia Orchestra and Assistant Organist at Macy’s Center City.
