Hunger Grants Available from our Synod and ELCA
Wondering how you might jump-start your congregation’s hunger ministry, hunger advocacy project, or collaborative effort addressing the root causes of hunger? Grant funding is now available from both ELCA World Hunger and our synod’s World Hunger Committee. Application deadlines for both programs are nearing, so gather your ministry team and act quickly.
2019 Legacy Fund Hunger Grants
These grants fund hunger-related programs and projects across our synod. While there is no limit to the amount that may be requested, the committee may elect to award partial funding. Past grants have ranged from $500 to $15,000, with most applicants seeking grants ranging from $800 – $5,000. Funds have supported the purchase of new tables for a congregational feeding ministry, weekend backpack programs, support for summer lunch ministries, the purchase of a tractor to support the Wittel Farm Growing Project, and matching funds for ELCA Domestic Hunger grants. Applications are available for download below or by emailing Cheryl Burns, our synod’s World Hunger Committee Chair, at firstname.lastname@example.org or Sharron Blezard at email@example.com.
Completed applications should be emailed or postmarked no later than September 14.
Review of applications will take place in September and early October, with announcement of recipients by October 15.
ELCA World Hunger Domestic Hunger Grants
These grants accompany congregations and their partners throughout the United States and Caribbean as they draw on the strengths of communities to address local issues such as food security, housing, job readiness, clean water, human rights, policy change, leadership development and more. Together, these ministries are part of a comprehensive approach to breaking the cycle of poverty and hunger – for good. ELCA World Hunger is particularly interested in partnering with ministries and projects that are transformative, holistic and integrated, providing bread for today and hope for tomorrow.
Awards will be for a three-year cycle, with a maximum award of $10,000 per year, contingent upon the completion of annual evaluations and fund availability. New applications are accepted annually. Visit http://www.elca.org/domestichungergrants for more detailed information, examples, and to access the application.
Completed applications should be submitted online by August 13.
Review of applications will take place during September and October, with announcement of recipients in early December 2018.
