What Defines “Young Adult”?

counselors13alsoAsk most ELCA Lutherans, and you will get a lot of different opinions on what defines “young adults.” In many settings these are adults who have graduated from high school through age 26, and in some places as old as age 30. But the reality is that ministry with people in their late teens and 20’s can vary depending upon marital status, whether the person has a child or not, if they are attending college or trade school, working full-time or holding down two or three part-time jobs simply to stay afloat financially. Like any age group, there are lots of different needs, and as faith mentors we need to respond with a variety of opportunities for exploring faith formation, worship, and Christian service.

Variety of Young Adult Ministry in Lower Susquehanna

threegirlsOne size does NOT fit all. In Lower Susquehanna Synod, a number of ministries are blossoming that target “young adults,” and we will do our best to link those to this page, so that if you are looking for an opportunity for gathering in community with peers, you have some options. However, a new option is emerging out of our Office for Children, Youth & Family Ministry, under the leadership of Darren Hamric, a Susquehanna University student, and a member at Ascension Lutheran in Willow Street. Darren has developed two social media outlets for sharing information, and is helping to shepherd a number of upcoming events geared towards 18-24 year-old’s in our synod.

LutheranHANDS is offering two trips in 2016 specifically designed for young adults, plus a number of other trips available to all generations.
