Our Season of Listening

Because we believe our Synod’s greatest assets are the people who make up our congregations and the possibilities for transformation we embody, we’ve entered into a season of deep listening.

Will you join your heart and voice with us in discerning where God is leading us as a synod?  Over the next few months, we invite your congregation to find ways to share stories, hopes and dreams around three listening themes:

Listening Theme 1: What Matters Most?

Why is our Synod important to you and your congregation?
What is it about our Synod that makes us essential and unique?

Listening Theme 2: What is God’s Vision for us?

What is needed for the Lower Susquehanna Synod to faithfully live into God’s preferred future?  What is missing for us to do so?

Listening Theme 3: How is God Calling Us into Deeper Service?

How do you see your congregation participating in God’s renewal through our synod?   What specific gifts do you bring to move our synod into God’s preferred future?

To help you engage in listening and reflection, we recommend (but don’t require) The World Café model of collaborative deep listening.

The World Café is an easy-to-use method for creating a living network of collaborative dialogue around questions that matter.  This format fosters interaction and dialogue with both large and small groups and is particularly effective in harvesting the collective wisdom of diverse people.

At the core of deep listening is encouraging everyone’s contribution, connecting diverse people and ideas, and listening together for patterns, insights and deeper questions.

Once you’ve completed your season of listening, please harvest the insights and share the collective wisdom in your congregation with Deacon Marsha Roscoe, Director for Mission Interpretation at mroscoe@lss-elca.org by February 14, 2018.
