Why Always Being Made New?

We share a living, daring confidence in God’s grace. The Always Being Made New Campaign gives us an opportunity to share God’s abundance in new and increased ways. Together, we can do more.

IMG_5141_EditedDHW“Our world hungers for what ELCA Lutherans offer best through our congregations, our Lower Susquehanna Synod, and our Churchwide ministries.

“Together we equip leaders, encourage cooperation, and engage a rapidly changing world in new and radical ways.”

— Bishop James S. Dunlop

What is Always Being Made New and why do we need this campaign?

Always Being Made New: The Campaign for the ELCA is a five-year campaign approved by the 2013 ELCA Churchwide Assembly in Pittsburgh. It seeks to raise $198 million in support of new and expanded churchwide ministries above and beyond those supported by your regular weekly offerings. The campaign goal represents a 64 percent increase in designated funding for these critical ministries.

As Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton reminds us, “It’s not often that such an opportunity to make a real and lasting difference comes along–to start or renew a congregation, to identify and prepare leaders in our church and among our global companion churches, to feed people and equip them to break out of the cycle of hunger and poverty. That’s what we can do together through this campaign. And we get to do this in Jesus’ name. Thanks be to God!” For more information about the ELCA campaign, click here.

Voting members at our 2014 Lower Susquehanna Synod Assembly, held June 5-7 at Messiah College, adopted a Synod Council Resolution on the 25th Anniversary Campaign for the ELCA in the Lower Susquehanna Synod. This bold initiative to fund not only critical churchwide ministries but also critical ministries here in our synod aims to raise a total of $5.5 million in five years. Click here to read the text of the resolution adopted at our Assembly (found on pages 2-3). “These times challenge us to go outside our comfort zones and beyond our own walls, giving above and beyond current levels, to reach God’s beloved people here in Central Pennsylvania and beyond,” said Bishop Jim Dunlop.

What’s the difference between Always Being Made New and our regular mission support and congregational offerings?

This comprehensive campaign is designed to address our generous Lower Susquehanna Synod members’ desire to go the extra mile beyond their regular tithes and offerings, to give to the specific ministries and programs that speak to their hearts and desire to make a real and lasting difference. This campaign is also about growing growing faithful stewards for today AND tomorrow.
