This year at Synod Assembly we fed the hungry with Fill The Truck to Feed the Children. Working with the Central PA Food Bank, you provided nourishing food for children who rely on free or reduced-priced school breakfasts, lunches and weekend BackPack Programs. Together, we fed others as we have been fed by Christ.

Summer is a time when children who receive free and reduced-price meals are at even more risk for hunger. With no school breakfasts and lunches, getting enough nutritious food can be a real challenge. This year, Synod Council member Joyce Frigm felt a calling to do something to provide for these children, and so Fill The Truck to Feed the Children became a reality.

This food in-gathering initiatve was a huge success thanks to your amazing generosity. Together we collected more than 7,000 pounds of food (11 pallets!) along with monetary donations in excess of $1,500 for the Central PA Food Bank to use in feeding hungry children and their families this summer.

“Our partner agencies will be so lucky to receive these boxes,” said Beth Hamilton, Director of Food Sourcing and Logistics for the Food Bank. “We rarely get such a nice variety of clean, new products! Our volunteer staff were so thrilled to receive those items. This was by far one of the best food drives we have ever received here.”

We give thanks for Joyce Frigm for her vision in making this event happen and for all of our volunteers who helped collect, deliver, sort, and pack this nourishing food. Together we are feeding others as we have been fed by Christ.

Monetary gifts are still welcome and appreciated. Please make your checks payable to Lower Susquehanna Synod and mark them “Fill the Truck” so that your gift is properly credited.
