Pastoral Staff

Joining Bishop Dunlop in making up this synod’s pastoral staff, are four leaders called to relate to conferences, assist congregations in transition, support rostered leaders, and serve as liaisons to synodical committees. The pastoral staff includes:

The Rev. Richard Jorgensen
Director for Evangelical Mission

Responsibilities include:

  • Working with the synod staff and conference deans to build and develop initiatives with congregations, conferences, parishes, and cooperatives (mission strategy)
  • Developing the stewardship resources of this synod that include stewardship education, the convening of mission support conversations, the strengthening of synodical and congregational generosity, and the promotion of asset thinking and planning (mission support)
  • Identifying potential and resources for the revitalization and development of evangelizing congregations and, where, appropriate, the formation of new evangelizing ministries and congregations.

The Rev. Richard Jorgensen was called as Director for Evangelical Mission by the ELCA Church Council. His call began on August 23, 2012. Pastor Jorgensen has received ELCA Mission Developer training and has participated in workshops and training events for transformational ministry. Previously he served as pastor at Holy Spirit, Lancaster; as associate pastor at St. Matthew, York; as pastor at St. Paul, Hametown; Christ (Filey Pastoral Charge), Dillsburg; and Zion, Waynesboro, Virginia. Pastor Jorgensen was ordained on June 8, 1989, by the Metropolitan New York Synod at St. Agnes, Rockville Center, New York.

Jorgensen graduated from the State University of New York at Binghamton in 1984 with a B.A. in Political Science. He received his Master of Divinity degree from the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg in 1989 and earned a Master of Science in Pastoral Care and Counseling from Neumann College in 2005.

He is married to the Reverend Janyce Covner Jorgensen who serves as one of the pastors at Zion Lutheran Church, York. They are parents to Mark (22) and Leah (17).

The Rev. Thomas E. McKee first joined the staff of the Lower Susquehanna Synod on October 1, 2001. Prior to accepting the call as one of four assistants to Bishop Carol S. Hendrix, he was co-pastor of Grace Lutheran Church, York, 1974-2001. He became an assistant to Bishop B. Penrose Hoover on January 19, 2008.

Pastor McKee graduated in 1970 with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Thiel College. He received his Master of Divinity degree from the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg in 1974. He was ordained in 1974 by the Western Pennsylvania-West Virginia Synod of the Lutheran Church in America.

While a parish pastor, Pastor McKee served on the Synod Council and its Executive Committee. He also served as a conference dean and as a part-time chaplain at Lutheran Social Services South Central Pennsylvania and at Country Meadows of York. He has served as synod secretary since 1999.

Pastor Thomas McKee is married to the Rev. Judith A. McKee. They are parents to Michael Paul and Sarah Ruth and grandparents to granddaughter, Kennedy Lory McKee, and grandson, Micah Brayden McKee.

The Rev. Robert Blezard was called to serve on our synod’s pastoral staff beginning November 1, 2013. Prior to that he served Trinity Lutheran Church, Arendtsville, since ordination in February 2006. Pastor Blezard graduated from Hofstra University in 1983 with a B.A. in Creative Studies. An MDiv graduate of Boston University School of Theology, a Methodist seminary, he completed his “Lutheran year” studies at Gettysburg Seminary and the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia.

A second-career pastor, Blezard worked as a writer and editor for 26 years, including a post as an editor at The Lutheran magazine in Chicago. Since 2000 he has worked as study guide editor for the magazine. He also works as content editor and writer for the Stewardship of Life Institute.

He is married to the Reverend Sharron Riessinger Blezard who also serves as an Assistant to the Bishop of the Lower Susquehanna Synod. They are parents to Elspeth (29), Margaret (23), Kaleigh (21), and Kristian (18).

The Rev. Sharron Riessinger Blezard was called to serve on our synod’s pastoral staff beginning November 1, 2013. Pastor Blezard most recently served as pastor at Trinity, Rouzerville. Previously she served Trinity, Hixson, TN, and the Sheyenne-Oberon Area Ministry (a cooperative of four congregations) in the Eastern North Dakota Synod. Pastor Blezard was ordained in June 2006 at St. John Lutheran Church in Potter, NY.

Blezard graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 1984 with a B.A. in Music, and in 1994 earned a Master of Arts degree in Professional Writing. She received her Master of Divinity degree from the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg in 2006. Prior to entering seminary she taught middle school and high school English, college composition and remedial writing, and worked in University Advancement, community relations, and non-profit management. Blezard is a freelance writer and writes a weekly lectionary reflection for the Stewardship of Life Institute.

She is married to the Reverend Robert Blezard who also serves as an Assistant to the Bishop of the Lower Susquehanna Synod. They are parents to Elspeth (29), Margaret (23), Kaleigh (21), and Kristian (18).
