Winterterfest 2012: "GO"
Congregational leaders and youth are asking, why move from the Lancaster Host to the Lancaster Convention Center? There are primarily two reasons. First, the Marriott and Lancaster County Convention Center (LCCC), on the square in Lancaster city, are new and well appointed facilities with state of the art sleeping rooms, banquet and meeting rooms that we think youth and congregational leaders will love. But most importantly, we believe that the move provides us with a unique opportunity to do some intentional service in Lancaster city with some existing institutions and agencies that work with local people dealing with the challenges of poverty and injustice.
This does not necessarily mean we will make this a permanent move, nor that we will do “service” work at every future Winterfest. But this year’s the, “GO,” and the venue provide us with some unique opportunities we may not otherwise have experienced to walk the walk of Jesus in our modern-day setting. On Saturday, congregational groups will have a chance to spend a portion of their day working in the city, but most of the action will still take place at the LCCC. Participants can count on some of the traditions they have come to know and love. There will still be a chance to share in small groups, following a curriculum designed for this weekend and theme, to eat with peers, share in fellowship, and experience large group singing and speakers.
In fact, the new venue affords us some new chances to create a brand new large group experience with a permanent worship space, multiple stages and screens, and new lighting and sound. Additionally, there are new venues for our prayer room, Friday night inflatables and the dance. We are excited about all the new opportunities, but balancing that up against some of our traditions that have come to define this event. Now all we need is YOU!
