If your congregation is considering increasing your staff to include a leader who is not a pastor but is theologically trained, you might think about calling a rostered lay leader. Associates in Ministry, Diaconal Ministers, and Deaconesses are not ordained as pastors are, but they are commissioned or consecrated by the church and called to ministries of Word and Service. Among these service ministries are Christian education, music, social outreach, visitation, chaplaincy, youth ministry, counseling, parish worker, and health ministries. To learn more about rostered lay leaders in our synod, contact Pastor Virginia Cover, Lower Susquehanna Synod, at 1.800.692.7282 x 102 or at vcover@lss-elca.org.
